We have a lot of clients who come to us asking to improve their appearance through non surgical treatments. However, there’s a lot of confusion about the options, and people often don’t know what works and how each option can improve their complexion and get rid of unsightly wrinkles.
So we at ClinicMedica thought we would write a series of blog posts as a great resource for people who are thinking about getting anti-wrinkle injections, in order to help people in making their own decision about treatments to choose.
The main one that people have heard of, and the topic of our blog post today, is ‘Botox’, which is actually a trade name of one of the anti wrinkle treatments that work by temporarily paralysing the facial muscles. The treatment can soften and even eliminate wrinkles through the relaxation of these muscles, allowing the overlying skin to regenerate wrinkle-free.
It is certainly a safe product, with many thousands of people undergoing the treatment across the world to rejuvenate their appearance. It is also one of the most effective treatments for smoothing expression lines on the face. The injections can even be used in a slightly different way to block the sweat glands in the armpits or on the hands, giving fantastic relief to people who suffer from excessive sweating in these areas.
The treatment may take up to a week to work, with a full effect usually expected after about two weeks. After cleansing your face and taking some ‘before’ photos, the product is injected in a number of spots on your face so there is a risk of minor bruising or bleeding. Your aesthetic doctor should have taken a full medical history from you, including if you are on any medications, to make sure it is safe for you to have the injections.
Treatment for wrinkles with ‘Botox’ or its cousins will give you a smoother appearance for about three months and will start to fade after that. The treatment may then be repeated to maintain the appearance. For very heavy lines, it may be necessary to repeat the process before the full effect is seen, to allow the skin time to regenerate.
It is important not to massage the areas injected after treatment, and not to apply makeup for the rest of the day. It is also advised not to lie flat for a few hours after the procedure, and to avoid alcohol as this can increase the risk of bruising.
Some people say to actively move your facial muscles repeatedly after injection for a few hours, such as the frown muscles if these have been injected. However, we at ClinicMedica are not aware of any evidence that this will improve the effectiveness of the treatment.
We hope that our short blog post has given you some insight into anti wrinkle injections. We will be bringing you some more articles on Dermal Fillers and Lip Enhancement soon, so why not follow us on Twitter or Instagram to know when our next article is out?
